Carol Semple Thompson

Carol Semple Thompson (1948-)

Carols Semple Thompson was born to a golfing family.  Carol’s first major win was the WGAWP Championship in 1965 at age 16 when she defeated her mother at Sewickley Heights.   Carol has racked up 15 WGAWP Championships, spanning six decades.  She has 22 PA State Amateurs, the first in 1969 and the most recent in 2006.  But Carol’s biggest accomplishments were on national and international stages.  Carol Semple Thompson won 7 USGA championships and was selected to participate in the Curtis Cup a record 12 times.  She won the 1973 U.S. Women's Amateur, the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur in 1990 and 1997, the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur from 1999-2002. In 1974, she won the Ladies British Amateur.  In 2003 she was awarded the Bob Jones Award.  In 2005 she was named recipient of the PGA “First Lady of Golf Award”.  In 2008 she was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame.  In 2013 she was in the inaugural class of the West Penn Hall of Fame.  And finally, Carol is WGAWP Player-of-the Decade for 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s.
