Phyllis Semple

Phyllis Semple (1921-2009)

Phyllis Semple was the WGAWP Player of the Decade for the 1950’s and the 1960’s.  Phyllis won the WGAWP Championship six times:   in 1954 at Longue Vue, in 1955 at Edgewood, in 1957 at Fox Chapel, in 1958 at Edgewood, in 1961 at Chartiers, and in 1963 at Green Oaks.   Phyllis was runner up to the WGAWP Championship four times in 1956, 1964, 1965, and 1969.  Phyllis won the PA State Championship in 1964 at Merion and was runner up in the state championship three times in 1955, 1962, and 1963.  She also won the PA State Senior Championship in 1972 and 1975. Phyllis played in numerous US Women’s Amateurs and qualified for match play eleven times.  Phyllis finished third in the 1971 USGA Senior Women’s Amateur.  In recognition of her golf achievements, the WGAWP named her an honorary member in 1975.
