Nettie Price

Nettie Price (1880-1973)

Nettie Price (or Mrs. J. Raymond Price as she was commonly referenced in newsprint) is the founder and was the first President of the Women’s Golf Association of Western PA.  Nettie was also an accomplished golfer.  She is the WGAWP Player of the Decade for the 1920’s.  Nettie Price won the 1921 West Penn Amateur when it was organized by the Women’s Committee of West Penn Golf Association.  She then followed up winning the WGAWP Championship in 1922 at Pittsburgh Field Club, the 1923 Championship at Oakmont, and the 1925 Championship at Pittsburgh Field Club.  She was the runner up in the 1924, 1926, and 1928 Championships.  Nettie competed in several US Women’s Amateurs, qualifying once for match play.  In 1975 the organization honored Nettie Price by establishing the First President’s Memorial Tournament and the First President’s Medallion.
