Judy Oliver

Judy Oliver (1947-2002)

Judy Oliver grew up playing golf at Fox Chapel Golf Club and began playing competitively as a young woman.  Judy Oliver won four WGAWP Championships in 1974, 1977, 1981, and 2001.  In two off those Judy prevailed over Carol Semple Thompson in tight matches.  Judy was runner up in the WGAWP Championship in 1971 and 1973, both times losing to Carol.  Judy  won the PA State Women’s Amateur in 1970, 1976, and 1987.  She was runner up to the State Amateur twice in 1981 and 1984, both times losing to her rival, Carol Semple Thompson. She also played in national tournaments, was runner up in the 1978 U.S. Women’s Amateur and reached the quarterfinals in 1975. She qualified for several U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and U.S. Senior Women’s Amateurs.  Judy also won the prestigious 1974 Broadmoor and 1976 Eastern Invitationals. She played on the 1978, 1980, and 1982 Curtis Cup teams, and the 1978 Women’s World Amateur team and she captained the 1992 Curtis Cup team.  In 2015 Judy Oliver was inducted into the West Penn Hall of Fame.
