The 2018 USGA Women's Mid-Amateur tournament was recently contested at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis Missouri. Western members Jordan Craig-Nyiri and Katie Miller were in the worldwide field through their efforts at a qualifying event at the Mystic Rock Resort course where Miller was the day's medalist.
Craig-Nyiri, the 17th seed, advanced to the round of 16 with wins over Lea Venable (South Carolina) and Cathleen Wong (Singapore) before running into Shannon Johnson (Massachusetts) who eliminated Craig-Nyiri 6 and 5. Johnson went on to win the Mid-Am in a tight match, featuring 5 lead changes, against last year's winner Kelsey Chugg, 1-up.
The 7th seed, Katie Miller, fell in the round of 64 to the #58 seed Gretchen Johnson on the 18th hole.
The Women's Mid-Amateur, contested annually, is a tournament for women age 25 and older. In addition to a 10-year exemption to the Mid-Am, the winner also is exempt from qualifying for the USGA Women's Amateur.
