Eighty four women and girls (including 46 from Western clubs!) took to the links at Ligonier Country Club to contest the Pennsylvania State Women's Amateur, Senior and Super Senior tournament August 13 through 16 and despite some fickle weather during Monday's qualifying round, the event was a rousing success.

The week began with a practice round and players' dinner on Sunday with players enjoying a delicious and convivial  dinner in the recently built pavilion overlooking the golf course and live entertainment on the patio.  Monday's qualifier was interrupted by a four-and-a-half hour weather delay, sending out most of the field late in the day and back to the course early the next day to complete the round.  Cara Basso of Whitford Country Club shot a sizzling 67 on the par 72 layout to claim medalist honors.

Three flights of Amateurs, three flights of Seniors and a Super Senior division competed in the match play portion of the event beginning Tuesday and concluding Thursday with the presentation of awards.

The 2018 State Amateur champion is Kristen Obush (Ligonier Country Club) who takes the title with a forfeit win over Lauren Waller (Southpointe) who was forced to retire from the competition after the completion of her 2 and 1 win over defending champion Katie Miller in the semi-finals of the championship division.  Molly Gorman defeated Juliarose Genuardi in 21 holes in the first flight and Nina Busch needed 19 holes to beat Sara Klinchock (Ligonier Country Club and daughter of the pro!) in the 2nd division.

Lisa McGill decisioned top seed Beth Ward 6 and 5 to become the Senior champ.  Patti Parsons defeated Susan Konstalid 2-up in the first flight and Karen Hough (Ligonier) bested Barbara Anne Maier 2 and 1 in the second flight.

Ligonier's Sheila Kassel defeated Sue Colton (Butler) in 19 holes to take home Super Senior honors.

Kudos to the golf and dining staff at Ligonier, gracious hosts for this wonderful event.  Kristen Obush (tournament chair), Katie Miller (assistant tournament chair), Danielle Proctor (tournament administrator) and PSWGA President Ann Vanzant's hard work and organization were evident throughout the week.  Congratulations to all!  The 2019 State Amateur will be hosted by the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
