2018 CHAMPIONSHIP WILL HAVE NEW FORMAT

A significant change to the golf calendar for next season will be the format for the WGAWP Championship according to President Christine Haythorn.  The decision stems from small player fields in recent years and a reluctance to ask hosting clubs to provide five days of competitive play at their courses. Next year's event will feature both medal and Stableford scoring.  The tournament will conclude within three days of play and, hopefully, be embraced by working women who could not commit to a full week of play and members for whom 5 consecutive days of play to be too challenging.

The Bobby Cruickshank Qualifying Tournament will still be required play for all participants.  The top players, based on gross scores, will be placed in the Championship division (the number to be determined by the tournament committee) and will play two more rounds of stroke play in successive days.  The winner of the Championship will be determined by the lowest 54-hole score.  Net winners will also be recognized in this division and appropriate prizes will be awarded.

Those contestants who do not qualify for the championship division will have their qualifying scores converted to a Stableford score and placed in flights by handicap index.  Players will contest a second round.  Winners of these flights will have the highest 36-hole gross Stableford points.

A champions luncheon for all players and volunteers will be enjoyed at the conclusion of the third day of play.  More details will be announced in the spring.

Chartiers Country Club has agreed to host the 2018 Championship.
