Summary of Updates and Changes to Policy

Every season the WGAWP Board evaluates issues that have surfaced and introduces changes that are appropriate to support our mission. The following document summarizes what is new for 2017:

GENERAL PROCEDURES:

* Slow Play Policy: The slow play policy has been expanded to include selected “A” Open Days.

* Open Days: Criteria for specifying “A” and “B” Open Days have been established and defined under Open Days, Point 5.

o The WGAWP reserves the right to designate Open Days as an “A” or “B” Open Day. The decision to assign the “A” or “B” designation will be made by the Board upon recommendation of the Open Day Chair, after a review of participation levels at consecutive Open Days over a two-year period. When participation levels over that time period are consistently below 10 foursomes, without good cause, the Open Day will be designated as a “B” Open Day.

* Hard Card Update: The Hard Card has been updated to reflect the USGA’s new rule regarding the ball moving on the green.

TOURNAMENTS:

* Championship - Ties for Championship Flight: Ties for only the last position will be resolved by a playoff. Any other ties are resolved via blind draw. Players not available for the playoff forfeit that position. If all players tied for a position forfeit, the position is resolved through a blind draw.

* Championship - Other Flights: Participants not qualifying for the Championship flight are flighted by handicap and seeded by their qualifying round gross score. Ties for all positions are resolved through a blind draw.

* Index raised for specific tournaments: The eligible index for competition has been raised to 21.4 for both the Tag Hill and the Lehman. There is no cap on participation in the Championship.

* New One & One Tournament: Team event with one gross ball and one net ball per hole. The same ball cannot be used for both scores. Butler Country Club on 6/21.

* New Mixed Team Event: Mixed team event in which you may choose your own partners. One net better ball of men plus one net better ball of women. Chartiers Country Club on 8/5.

WEBSITE:

* New Tab – Other Events: Details non-golf related events and allows you to register on-line.

* New Tab – Page Search: Allows you to enter key words to find what you’re looking for on the website.

* Registration Help: Under the Tournament Tab, there is a page entitled “Registration Help.” Commonly asked questions are answered here. Please refer to this page before reaching out to a WGAWP board member.

* New Registration Process: When registering for an event, you will now be directed to the WPGA page. Be sure to click on Women’s Events. Under this tab, you can register for WGAWP tournaments and “A” Open Days, along with WPGA’s women’s events.

WEST PENN COLLABORATION:

* Permanent Office Space: WGAWP now has permanent office space and an address at the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association facilities. The address is WGAWP, 324 Fourth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.

* New Website Collaboration: Our alliance with West Penn continues to strengthen. We need to be sure to participate in the WPGA events so that more women’s events will be scheduled.

* New Women’s Net Championship: Women will now have a Net Championship event, along with the men. This year’s event will be held at South Hills Country Club on September 5th.

* Re-Establishment of the West Penn Women’s Amateur: West Penn, in collaboration with WGAWP is bringing back the West Penn Women’s Amateur. This year’s event will be held at Cranberry Highlands and will include additional divisions for Seniors and Super Seniors. We are working to hold next year’s event at a premier course, so participation in this year’s event is crucial.

OTHER:

* 95th Anniversary Celebration: On Wednesday of Championship Week (July 12th), we will celebrate Western’s 95th Anniversary. We have a fun event scheduled and we hope you will participate.
