Womens Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania

The WGAWP 2016 Fall Closing meeting was held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Green Oaks Country Club.  

President, Corinne Lacich, welcomed the members to the meeting and awards presentation.  Corinne provided the members with an update of our membership status, which stands at 576 including 23 new members who qualified with the revised handicap index of 21.4.  Corinne also announced that our agreement with West Penn Golf Association was finalized and among other benefits, the WGAWP now has office space and a permanent address.  Corinne then remembered a Past President, Jinney Koltick who past away at 95 this August.  Corinne also remembered Arnie Palmer and our special connection to this Western Pennsylvania golfer who charmed the entire world.  She announced that the WGAWP Board had decided to join Arnie's Army with a donation of $1000.  Corinne thanked delegates, Committee Chairmen, the Board, Kim Kness and Past President, Mary Beth Morrissey for their help in making the 2016 season a success.

Treasurer, Kathy Campbell, provided a Treasurer's report.

VP and Tournament Chairman, Christine Haythorn, provided highlights of the 2016 Tournament season focusing on the 2016 Championship at South Hills and the 1st President's Tournament.  Christine updated the membership on the effectiveness and lessons learned regarding the new Slow Play policy that was implemented in 2016.  Christine announced that the Championship would be held at Allegheny Country Club from July 10-14, 2017 and that the Spring 2-Day would be at Williams Country Club on June 19-20, 2017 and the Fall 2-Day at Youngstown Country Club on September 18-19.  Christine also teased the members with some information on new events for 2017.

Beth Szymczak, Team Chairman, provided an update of the Team season and awarded the Team Plaques to the winning teams.  Susie Perrin, Junior Chairman, provided an update to the Junior season and announced the Junior Scholarship winners. 

Christine then announced and Corinne awarded prizes for the 2016 events held for the final meeting.  Christine announced that Player of the Year honors were awarded to Mackey Fouse who accumulated 17 points by winning the Bobby Cruickshank, the Championship, and low gross honors at 1st President's.  Mackey's sister, Lindsay, accepted the award on behalf of Mackey and shared Mackey's thanks with the membership.  Corinne then announced that the Board was awarding a "Volunteer Recognition Award" to Annie Vanzant for her extensive contributions to the organization including the Junior program, the Prize Committee, Team captaincy, and Nominating Committee.  

The Nominating Committee Chairman, Mary Mackey, announced the slate of nominees for the 2017 Board and the following were installed and received their Board pins:  Treasurer, Maria Jarrett and directors Augusta Kairys, Jamie Kerestes and Phyllis Beuttner.  Patty Mansfield steps in as the Assistant Tournament director.

Corinne thanked the outgoing Board members for their service to the organization and they received their Past Board pins.  They were:  Betty Minnotte, 1 year; Lisa Popovich, 2 years; Joanne McHolme, 3 years, and Kathy Campbell, 6 years.
