Cruickshank Qualifier on August 25

The Women's Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania is pleased to contest the 92nd annual WGAWP Championship at South Hills Country Club from July 25-29 beginning with the Bobby Cruickshank qualifying round on Monday. The Bobby Cruickshank Memorial Award is presented to the low gross winner of the qualifying round. The permanent plaque is inscribed with the winners name and retained at Chartiers Country Club.

This year, in the Championship Flight, the defending champion is awarded the first seed if she elects to not to compete in the qualifying round.  The remaining 15 or 16 spots in this flight will be determined on gross scores in the qualifier.

Remaining participants will be flighted by their handicap indexes and seeded by their qualifying round gross score.

Match play continues through the remainder of the week to determine  winners in all flights.

Also at stake are Virginia Frew Wright Player of the Year points with the low gross winner racking up 6 Points; Runner-up Gross: 4 Points.  Flight winners  each receive 5 points while all other flight qualifiers earn 2 points.

South HIlls Country Club was organized and brought to life by a group of businessmen and South Hills residents in 1920 on a tract of 78 acres at the intersection of Brownsville Road and Route 51, just 5 minutes from Pittsburgh. Played as a nine-hole course during its first four years, the layout was expanded to its current 18 holes in 1924.

Despite a few closures due to fire (1938) and gas rationing (1942-43), the club maintains a robust membership and enjoys a newly renovated swimming pool complex and many options for dining including the "Tavern on the Tee" which opens onto a beautifully landscaped patio with golf course views.

The WGWAP is most appreciative for the opportunity to play this beautiful and challenging course!
