The Club at Nevillewood played host to the WGAWP Championship commencing with the Bobby Cruickshank Memorial Tournament qualifying round.  Mia Kness of Valley Brook took medalist honors with a score of 74.  The low 16 players, including defending champion Kristen Obush (who waived her opportunity to win the Cruickshank trophy in exchange for the top seed), were placed in the Championship flight.  Remaining golfers were seeded in the remaining four flights by their qualifying scores to continue the match play portion of the event.

Perfect course conditions and weather were enjoyed by all participants.  Special thanks to Nevillewood delegate Linda DeBlasio and her crew of volunteers, Tournament Director Corinne Lacich and Tournament Administrator Kim Kness for ensuring that the tournament ran smoothly  and no detail was overlooked.

By the end of the week, 16 year old Mia Kness took home her first WGAWP title toppling defending champion Kristen Obush by a score of 6 and 4.  Her path to the finals included a 4 and 3 win over Laura Hilger, a 2-up defeat of Colleen Adams; and a 2 and 1 win over last year's runner-up Carol Semple Thompson in the semi-finals.

In an interesting coincidence, her win comes 50 years after another 16 year old, Carol Semple, won her first of a record 15 championships at the expense of her own mother, Phyllis Semple!

Mia is the daughter of our Tournament Administrator, Kim Kness.
