Van Zant displays season's prizes

Valley Brook Country Club recently hosted more than 100 members for the annual Spring Meeting of the Women's Golf Association of Western Pennsylvania.  President Mary Mackey welcomed the group and requested a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the recent Boston Marathon bombings.

Members of the Executive Board were introduced and presented their Committee reports after Kathy Campbell gave the Treasurer's report:

Marcia Balmert announced that Valley Brook Country Club will be the site of      the 2014 Championship; Mary Beth Morrissey requested suggestions for venues for future Two Day events; Lesley Thomas announced that online registration for A Open Days has been enabled; Corinne Lacich repoerted on the new requirements for admission into the WGAWP; Marian Pirih noted that Team Play is ready to begin on April 30 and Debbie Collins announced the creation of two junior golf scholarships honoring past president, Dr. Ann Buck.  Your donations to junior golf made this possible.

Members of the Course Rating, Prize, Nominating, State Association, USGA and WPGA committees were recognized and thanked for their time and efforts to grow the game.

Two past Presidents in attendance, Ruth Podbielski and Barbara Russell were gifted with a decorative pillow embroidered with the phrase "Where's Your Dollar?", a phrase heard at every event of the season.  Ruth and Barbara both joined the organization in 1977 and are still going strong!

The Executive Board report, delivered by Mary Mackey, referenced the many steps that the organization has taken during the "off-season" toward a more paperless and efficient operation.  The website experienced a major overhaul of its "look" and has become a significant source of information for its members.  Tournament and Open Day entries are now processed online using the GHIN Tournament Pairing Program and communication with over 600 members is a snap with email capabilities.  (Note:  Read the Executive Board report posted on the home page of this website)

The West Penn Golf Association's Terry Teasdale was on hand to explain the new procedure for entering tournaments and Open Days using the online registration featuare.  Detailed information for registration can be found in the news article on the WGAWP home page.

Following breakout sessions for  team play, rules and delegates, a beautiful and delicious luncheon featuring flatbreads, pasta, salad and dessert stations was enjoyed in the dining room.  Many thanks to the staff of Valley Brook Country Club and their delegate Sue Scheessle for the attention to detail that ensured this event's success!
