Green Oaks Hosts Fall Meeting

Mansfield steps up to the Presidency

Outgoing president Christine Haythorn presided over the final meeting of her two-year term, the annual fall business meeting held this year at Green Oaks Country Club.  

Following reports by the treasurer, tournament and junior scholarship committees, Corinne Lacich presented for confirmation a slate of nominees for next year's Executive Board, which was immediately accepted.  The incoming members were welcomed and presented their pins:

     Carol Onufro (Ligonier) - Vice President and Tournament Director (2 years)
     Karen Culley (Sewickley Heights) - Handicap Director (2 years)
     Laura Hilger (Treesdale) - Team Director (2 years)
     Vicki Smith (Pine Crest) - Junior Director (2 years)
     Marsha Jessup (Valley Brook) - Assistant Tournament Director (1 year)

Stroke play event winners were presented their prizes by Christine Haythorn and Patti Mansfield: Barnes Murphy, Tag Hill, Seniors and Super Seniors.

Virginia Frew Wright Player of the Year Jane Wymer accepted her award from Barbara Russell (Frew Wright's granddaughter).  Wymer successfully defended her player-of-the-year honors and added a third overall recognition.

Sheila Kassel was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for her work on the WGAWP website since its inception and participation on the Standing Rules Committee.  Kassel authors the home page, revised the process and documents for team matches and regularly officiates many of our tournaments.

Lauren Freyvogel and Victoria Slawinski were awarded the "You Betch" junior scholarships.  They will both be attending Penn State University in the the fall of 2020.

Next year, WGAWP members can look forward to playing at Bedford Springs Resort for the Spring Two Day on June 8 and 9.  Seven Springs will host the Fall Two Day on September 14 and 15.  The WGAWP championship will take place on July 20, 21 and 22 at Sewickley Heights Country Club.

Retiring members of the Executive Board Christine Flynn (Assistant Tournament Director) and Carolyn Morford (Handicap Director) received their pins and were thanked for their service to the organization.

In her final act as President, Christine Haythorn passed the gavel to Patti Mansfield who will guide the organization for the next two years.  Congratulations and thank you to all who volunteer and serve the organization!
