Katie Miller (Ligonier CC) advanced for the fifth time to the U.S. Women's Mid-Am, recently held at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff Arizona, with an 8 stroke victory at the South Hills Country Club qualifier in August.

Miller emerged from two days of stroke play (145) earning the 39th seed and a match-up with Amanda Jacobs in the round of 64 whom she dispatched 5 and 3.

Miller needed a birdie on the 18th to force extra holes and, finally, a victory over Mallory Hetzel in the round of 32.  In the afternoon session, birdies on 12, 13 and 16 helped Miller pull away from a match that was all-square after 11 holes to defeat Alexandra Schilling 2 and 1.

Into the quarterfinals for the second time, Miller's run at the Mid-Am came to a close with a 5 and 4 loss to Meghan Stasi, a four-time winner of the event.  Congratulations Katie!

The USGA originated the Women's Mid-Amateur to provide a competitive arena for women over the age of 25 for whom careers and families have precluded golf as a vocation.  Amateurs whose handicaps do not exceed 9.4 are eligible to compete at any qualifying site around the country for the right to be one of 132 players to compete in stroke play and, eventually, advance to match play and a chance to be the champion.
