SCORE POSTING POLICY

Changes for the 2019 season

The information below has been excerpted from Handicap Chair Carolyn Morford's email detailing changes to the score posting policy for Western members:

Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that: (1) each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played and (2) that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review.  The player and the Handicap Committee have joint responsibility  for adhering to these ideas.

The WGAWP requirements for score posting has changed this year in preparation for the Handicap changes that will take affect in 2020 when handicaps will change DAILY.  Therefore, it is important to post your scores promptly and accurately to maintain fair handicapping of our events.

Starting with the 2019 season, scores must be posted within 48 hours of play.  The GHIN app on your smart phone or tablet makes this easy.  You may
also post at the club where you played.  Score posting for all Western
events including Team Matches and Open Days will be spot checked.

A reminder email will be sent to players with missing scores.  Failure to post a missing score within 48 hours of the email being sent will result in a score of PAR posted for the course that you played.  This will, likely, cause a reduction in your handicap.  Repeat offenders may incur additional penalties.

The Handicap packet, with a full description of the new policy, is available on our website under the "handicap committee" tab.  Also included in the packet is an explanation of which round require a score posted and what type of score should be selected.  The Handicap Chair for each club will receive a copy of this policy at the Spring Meeting.

It is your responsibility to be aware of these new procedures and follow them to avoid any issues with your handicap.
